Orientation and Study Organization

At the beginning of your studies, there is a lot of new information and many organizational questions. The following services and events will help you find your way around the department and campus and get off to a good start.

Orientation Phase (O‑Phase)

The orientation phase (O‑Phase) is organized by the Departmental Student Council and takes place in the week before lectures begin. It gives you the opportunity to meet other students and gain your first insights into studying at TU Dortmund University. Separate activities are offered for bachelor’s and master’s students.

During the day, the program focuses on topics such as:

  • getting to know the department and campus
  • making first contacts with fellow students
  • support with creating your course schedule
  • important information about the study program and exams

In the evenings, the group heads into Dortmund’s city center — a great opportunity to celebrate the start of your studies together and make new connections.

Student Council for Business and Economics

The Student Council represents the interests of students in the Department of Business and Economics and organizes the orientation phase, among other activities. It also supports you with questions about your studies and helps you get started at the department.

If you would like to get involved yourself, the Student Council is a great way to meet new people and actively help shape student life in the department.

Creating Your Course Schedule

At the beginning of your studies, you put together your own course schedule. The recommended study plan for your program and TU Dortmund’s course catalog (LSF) will help you with this.

A short video tutorial in German shows you step by step how to create your course schedule.

To get started, use the recommended study plan as a guide. It shows you which modules are intended for the first semester. You can then find the specific dates and times of the courses in the course catalog (LSF).

The Student Council also supports you with creating your course schedule during the orientation phase.

Registration for lectures is usually not required. Information about tutorials or exercise sessions will be provided in the respective courses.

Seminars have a separate registration process. However, they are usually only relevant in later semesters.
