Job & Master – Combining Study and Career

Excel in your studies and kick-start your career — with us, you can do both.

Our Master's programme in Business Administration and Economics is designed so that you can easily combine it with a part-time job, a work-study position, or a student assistant role. From the very beginning, you can gain practical experience, build connections with companies, and take your first steps into the profession – your part-time job or your master's thesis can become the stepping stone to your career.

Good to know: Job & Master” does not mean pursuing a full-time degree while holding a full-time job.

What makes our master's program career-friendly?

Throughout the programme, there is only one compulsory module, offered in both the winter and summer semesters. You have a great deal of freedom when choosing your other modules (more on this in the next point).

The examination regulations also give you a lot of flexibility – there are two examination periods each semester. And if things get tight with work: you can withdraw from written exams up to one day in advance, and oral exams can be often be scheduled to a convenient time in agreement with the examiners.

You choose one of our five study profiles:

  • Accounting & Finance
  • Management & Organizations
  • Digitalization & Entrepreneurship
  • Economics
  • Business & Economics (taught in English)

You then build your timetable around your goals and needs. You'll mainly choose modules from your own profile, but you can also select from the other profiles – so you can go broad or focused, depending on your interests.

Especially practical if you work alongside your studies: our seminar-based modules offer a great deal of flexibility, with fewer contact hours and a larger share of independent work.

Several professorships offer master's theses in collaboration with companies. In agreement with your supervising professor, you can also choose a topic directly from your day-to-day work or with your current employer.

If you have questions about balancing work and studies, the Departmental Manager for Studies and Teaching is happy to help— including when it comes to individual solutions.

Helena, master's student
„What I appreciate most is the freedom and flexibility in the master's programme, as it combines perfectly with my job as a work-study student. At the same time, I have the opportunity to specialise in certain areas while still exploring a broad range of topics, particularly through the diverse, practice-oriented seminar offering.“
