24 secondary school students from Mallinckrodt-Gymnasium and Europaschule in Dortmund were able to demonstrate their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit on Friday, October 21, 2022. As part of the fourth Junior Innovation Day, they spent a day developing creative business ideas and business models. They were supported by staff from the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Economic Education and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer (CET) at TU Dortmund University.

Intelligent systems to improve domestic electricity consumption, a medical emergency app to relieve emergency rooms, a sustainable toothbrush to avoid plastic waste - with these and many other ideas, the students were enthusiastic on Junior Innovation Day 2022. On this day, the task was not only to find good ideas for business models, but also to include social, economic and ecological conditions that require an entrepreneurial mindset to be able to develop innovative solutions.

"Self-employment can be expressed by starting a business - but thinking and acting entrepreneurially does not depend on an employment status. Thus, entrepreneurship aims at self-employment in different life situations and marks an important step towards individual self-determination," said Prof. Andreas Liening from the Faculty of Business and Economics.

The Junior Innovation Day is an event that is part of the Junior Entrepreneurship School offered by the TU Dortmund University. With this model project, the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Economic Education and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer at TU Dortmund University support schools in integrating economic topics into the classroom. In this way, school companies are founded in cooperation or business games are carried out.

A Junior Innovation Day is also planned for next year. We thank all participants for their support!
