TU Dortmund University and the Department of Business and Economics mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Teichmann, who has passed away at the age of 82. He was a formative figure in both the department and in economics at Dortmund.

Prof. Teichmann joined the still young University of Dortmund in 1976 as Professor of Economics. He was intensively involved in the development of the Department of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, which he also headed and helped shape as Dean during a decisive phase. The promotion of academic dialog was always a particular concern of his: He emphatically supported interdisciplinary exchange both within the department and among students. Within economics, he played an important mediating role between the fields of economics and business administration, thereby contributing to a holistic perspective.

Until his retirement in 2008, he was highly successful in sharpening and communicating a profound understanding of complex economic policy decisions through well-founded and differentiated analyses in research and teaching.

TU Dortmund University and the department have lost a highly esteemed colleague in Prof. Teichmann. We will honor his memory. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
