Welcome Prof. Dr. Sascha Alavi!

Prof. Dr. Alavi studied business administration at the University of Mannheim and subsequently completed his doctorate at the Ruhr University Bochum. After his habilitation in 2016 at the same university, he initially worked as an assistant professor at the Université de Lausanne in Switzerland before returning to the Ruhr University Bochum in 2017 to take up a professorship in general business administration with a focus on marketing and sales management. From 2023, he headed the Chair of Marketing and Innovation at Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg. The department faculty is delighted to welcome him as the holder of the Professorship of Marketing.
His current research interests focus on the areas of marketing technology and innovation, customer relationship management and B2B marketing. In particular, Prof. Alavi is investigating how new digital technologies (e.g. artificial intelligence) and innovations are changing organizational processes in marketing. The results of his research, which have won several Best Paper Awards, have been published in leading international journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Academy of Management Journal and Information Systems Research. In addition, according to the research productivity ranking of the Wirtschaftswoche newspaper, Prof. Alavi is one of the most research-intensive business economists up to the age of 40 in the DACH region.
