The award winners were selected from all students who wrote their final thesis at the Department of Business and Economics at TU Dortmund University in the academic year of 2022/2023. The award comes with prize money of €1,000 donated by the TMC.
TMC is a leading consultancy firm for restructuring and reorganization consulting, insolvency-related consulting and interim management for SMEs. It would like to use the prize to promote talent and support qualifications in the field of business administration and economics at TU Dortmund University. The supervising professors Simon Hensellek (Entrepreneurship and Digitalization), Andreas Hoffjan (Management Accounting and Control) Christiane Pott (International Accounting and Auditing) and Steffen Strese (Innovation Management) are delighted with the award winners.
The award-winning theses dealt with a broad spectrum of business administration issues.
Yannick Bergmann examined the topic of academic co-working spaces in his Bachelor's thesis. Co-working refers to spaces in which people work together with other creative people in large offices. Mr. Bergmann identified the prerequisites for their successful establishment at European universities.
In his bachelor's thesis, Fabian Risse analyzed possible factors influencing the sustainability of companies. The focus of his study is on the role of founder-specific characteristics. As a result, he is able to derive recommendations as to which conditions need to be created in order to promote sustainability.
The master's thesis written by Lukas Humpert is dedicated to corporate financing in the transportation and logistics industry. Specifically, the influence of the interest rate turnaround on the financing situation is examined. His conclusion: in the future, companies will choose risk-averse forms of financing in order to be able to react more quickly to market changes.
Dennis Schlamann recorded the typical compliance-relevant processes in SMEs in his master's thesis. Legal compliance requirements usually have to be taken into account in the individual operational processes. The master's thesis provides an empirical overview of how processes and compliance are practiced in SMEs.
