We congratulate the winners Alexander Lock and Kim Norman Peter Voss-Fels!

On May 28, the auditing and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers honored the best theses in the fields of controlling, accounting, auditing and taxation at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at TU Dortmund University. For the 31st award ceremony, prize winners were selected from all students who wrote their final thesis in the subjects of Corporate Accounting and Controlling, International Accounting and Auditing and Corporate Taxation in the winter semester 23/24. The awards went to Alexander Lock's Bachelor thesis at the Chair of Management Accounting and Controlling and Kim Norman Peter Voss-Fels' Bachelor thesis at the Chair of International Accounting and Auditing.

The award ceremony took place following a guest lecture by PwC and SAP as part of the Master's course "Reporting Issues". The guest lecture "Implementing Sustainability Reporting and Management with SAP" provided a comprehensive introduction to the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects into the financial organization and controlling. The speakers analyzed the current challenges, taking into account regulatory requirements such as CSRD and EU taxonomy. The students gained insights into the SAP Sustainability product portfolio and the use of the SAP Sustainability Control Tower for effective reporting and controlling. In addition, the implementation with SAP Analytics Cloud for optimized corporate planning was presented.

In his bachelor's thesis "Sustainability Controlling", Alexander Lock examines sustainability controlling as an integrative extension of traditional controlling, which is predominant in industry and business. The relevance of establishing sustainability controlling, taking into account the change in social values, is worked out with regard to securing the company's existence and legitimacy in the market. In addition, a recommendation for the implementation of sustainability controlling is given.

The bachelor thesis "Significance and challenges of the new CSRD for companies" by Kim Norman Peter Voss-Fels is dedicated to the potential challenges and corresponding solutions for CSRD implementation, which are determined empirically. Both companies that were previously required to report under the NFRD and those that were not. Following on from this, the empirical results on the challenges and solutions for CSRD implementation are presented.

We would like to congratulate the winners and wish them all the best for the future!
