Recap of our DiWoDo workshop

Immersion in extended reality
Using a voxel app from our FlowAR research project, iPads were transformed into creative tools: participants designed their own Minecraft-style augmented reality content. Participants also had the opportunity to use our Wizard tool to repair a Lego crane using AR instructions and to create their own repair instructions. Another highlight of the workshop was the use of HoloLens 2. This allowed participants to experience how plants “came to life” before their eyes. The joint experimentation impressively demonstrated how low-threshold and playful AR can become a creative but also useful medium.
Smart Home – Comfort and Control in Everyday Life
In the workshop, we also addressed the topic of smart homes. Using practical examples – from lighting control to intelligent assistance systems – we demonstrated how digital technologies can make our everyday lives easier. At the same time, participants critically discussed the issue of data sovereignty: How can we enjoy the benefits of convenience without relinquishing control over our personal data?
To sum up..
Our workshop offered participants the opportunity not only to learn about technologies in theory, but also to experience them in practice and reflect on them together. The combination of creative design, immersive experiences, and social discussion made it clear that digital transformation means much more than technological innovation – it challenges us to actively think about our digital future.
We would like to thank all participants for the inspiring discussions and look forward to continuing these topics in future events.
