Students from TU Dortmund demonstrate how hands-on Design Thinking can be – with innovative solutions that put user needs front and center

Two weeks ago, WEPA invited all students of the Design Thinking seminar to their headquarters in Müschede. After a semester of exploration, iteration, and prototyping, five student teams pitched their solutions to WEPA’s management team.

The business challenge: “How can hand hygiene in public restrooms become more attractive?” A question that may seem simple at first glance but is in fact both complex and highly relevant.

By tackling this challenge through the lens of the Design Thinking process, the students came up with innovative ideas, ranging from interactive steps for children over gamification and rewards programs in bathrooms. After the pitches we were invited to lunch together with WEPA representatives and had the chance to gain first-hand insights into the hygiene paper production processes during the factory tour.

Many thanks again for the great collaboration, valuable input, and hospitality of Andreas Krengel, Patrick Schumacher and the whole WEPA team.
