The Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ) is restructuring its program directorate. Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Christoph M. Schmidt becomes President of the Leibniz Association and relinquishes his position as Program Director of the RGS Econ after 22 years.

Since its foundation in 2004, Prof. Schmidt has played a key role in the development of RGS Econ. Under his leadership, almost 100 doctoral students have completed their doctorates in economics. The structured doctoral program of the RGS has developed into an internationally networked training and research environment with around 50 active and over 30 former faculty members.

"Prof. Schmidt's work has sustainably strengthened economic research in the Ruhr region. We would like to thank him for his extraordinary commitment and wish him every success in his new role," says Prof. Dr. Christoph Hanck, Program Director of RGS Econ.

With Prof. Dr. Christoph Hanck, who has already been working in the program directorate for years, and Prof. Dr. Almut Balleer, who is joining the management, RGS Econ is relying on continuity and new impulses in the management. Together, they will further strengthen research training, the supervision of doctoral students and cooperation within the RGS Econ network.
