The article by Bastian Kindermann, Anna Hocker and Steffen Strese entitled "Attracted to the Hustle? An Impression Management Perspective on Entrepreneurial Hustle in New Venture Recruitment" was recently published in the Journal of Management Studies. The study by the authors from the TIE Institute examines impression management techniques that entrepreneurs can use in recruitment situations. The authors found that entrepreneurs who present themselves as "hustlers" to applicants are perceived as more competent. This perception of competence in turn leads to a higher organizational attractiveness of the start-up. The effect of hustler presentations is independent of the gender of the entrepreneur, but is less pronounced if the applicants themselves are very entrepreneurial.
