Mourning for Prof. Dr. Thomas Reichmann

Prof. Dr. Thomas Reichmann was Professor of Management Accounting and Controlling at the University of Dortmund from 1973 until his retirement in 2005. As the founding dean of the then newly established Department of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, he played a key role in shaping its early development.
Professor Reichmann was regarded as one of the pioneers of modern controlling. His standard work "Controlling mit Kennzahlen und Managementberichten" (Controlling with Key Figures and Management Reports) has been published in several editions and is one of the foundations of controlling training. Professor Reichmann's research focused on the development of a system-supported controlling concept and the creation of a comprehensive family of key figures.
Professor Reichmann also repeatedly contributed his findings to the journal "Controlling", of which he was the founding editor (together with Prof. Dr. Péter Horvàth) in 1989 and with which he remained associated for over thirty years.
Professor Reichmann always attached great importance to linking science and practice in a way that was profitable for both sides. His commitment extended from the founding of the "Gesellschaft für Controlling" in 1986 to the organization of the "German Controlling Congress" and the "Controlling Innovations Center (CIC)", of which he was Managing Director for many years from 1986.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Reichmann passed away on March 12, 2025.
Our condolences go out to his family. The department will honor his memory.
