Farewell to Dr. Sören Köcher

Dr. Köcher had been a research assistant at the Chair of Marketing since 2010, where he completed his doctorate and subsequently remained associated with the chair as a temporary academic advisor before taking on the deputy professorship for marketing at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg in 2021. After returning to the professorship in 2023, he served as its interim holder from April 2024 to August 2025.
Dr. Köcher's research is located at the interface between economics, psychology and social research and deals, among other things, with marketing in a digital context, psychological consumer decisions and psychometric measurement methods. Mr. Köcher is distinguished by his international orientation: In addition to research stays at Florida Atlantic University and Texas State University in the United States, he has successfully published in recognized international journals and received international scientific awards. Furthermore, he was responsible for the acquisition of extensive third-party funding and worked closely with companies.
In teaching, Mr. Köcher has been responsible for training in quantitative marketing research, with a focus on data collection and multivariate data analysis. He received the department's teaching award in 2024 for his activities.
National and regional media have reported on Mr. Köcher's research work on several occasions. Spiegel, Stern, Welt and WAZ, among others, published articles on his work.
