The Digital Transformation Professorship has published a study on the implementation of a platform strategy using the example of SAP SE in the Journal of Information Technology.

In their paper „Capabilities for Value Co-Creation and Value Capture in Emergent Platform Ecosystems: A Longitudinal Case Study of SAP's Cloud Platform”, the professorship uses a multi-year, in-depth case study of SAP's cloud platform project to examine which capabilities are critical for companies to successfully establish platform ecosystems and how they contribute to value creation and capture. They are able to identify technology-related capabilities (cloud-based platformization, open IT landscape management) and relationship-oriented capabilities (ecosystem orchestration, platform evangelism, platform co-selling) as critical capabilities, and illustrate how these capabilities help the platform owner enable and balance value creation and capture in an emerging platform ecosystem. Their findings contribute to the discussion of how companies can manage the challenging emergent phase of platform ecosystems. In doing so, they bridge the literature on value creation in platform ecosystems and organizational capabilities.

The Journal of Information Technology (JIT)  is seen as one of the most central journals by senior scholars in business informatics research and is ranked in category A with an impact factor of 3.6 in the VHB ranking JOURQUAL 3.
