Due to an increased risk of natural hazards caused by climate change, a need for adaptation strategies for small and medium enterprises has emerged to protect firm sites as well as supply chains from such disasters. In the context of an EFRE research project, Simon König investigates the drivers and barriers of companies’ decisions to implement protective measures against the consequences of climate change. The current issue of Ruhr Wirtschaft (09/2021), published by IHK Dortmund, reports several insights of his explorative study. The research project’s goal is to develop concepts to raise awareness to the consequences of climate change and conduct a workshop series to consult the participating companies about adaptation strategies. The pilot workshop series started in September this year in different regions in NRW.
